UPDATE: Second Suspect Taken Into Custody in Violet Homicide

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has taken a second suspect into custody in connection with Thursday afternoon’s fatal shooting in Violet, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Malajah Lougin, 19, of the 2300 block of Mumphrey Road in Chalmette, was taken into custody today on a warrant for principal to second-degree murder.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at approximately 12:40 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting in the 2000 block of Colonial Boulevard in Violet. Upon arrival, they located a 17-year-old male victim behind a business suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

As previously reported, Tyreese Riley, 23, of Contemporary Court in Violet, was booked Feb. 12 for principal to second-degree murder.

Arrest warrants remain active for Marcus Venible, 23, for second-degree murder; Maliek Pickens, 21, for principal to second-degree murder; and Arthur Coleman, 20, for principal to second-degree murder.

The investigation remains ongoing.
