SBSO ARRESTS TWO, ISSUES WARRANT FOR THIRD IN CONNECTION WITH ENTERGY OIL RELEASE

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested two men and has issued an arrest warrant for a third in connection with the recent oil release at an Entergy substation, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Ronald Clark, 55, and Gerard Henninger Jr., 30, both of the 2300 block of Esteban Street in Arabi, were both booked on Sept. 27 with damage to a critical infrastructure and simple burglary.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Jeremy Johnston, 34, also of the 2300 block of Esteban Street, who is wanted for damage to a critical infrastructure and simple burglary.

On Sunday, Sept. 25, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies with the Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division responded to a call for service in reference to suspicious activity near the 4200 block of Jean Lafitte Parkway in Chalmette.

When deputies arrived on the scene they discovered a green fluid in the marsh that was determined to be leaking from an Entergy substation left inactive after a tornado damaged the Arabi area in March, 2022.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau determined the leak was due to the valves of two large oil-filled transformers being removed as a result of criminal activity.

Detectives worked with a local scrap yard to identify Clark, Henninger and Johnston as the perpetrators. Clark and Henninger were taken into custody and transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges. Detectives are still looking for Johnston.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Jeremy Johnston, or any other information relating to this incident, is asked to call the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office at (504) 271-2501, the Criminal Investigations Bureau’s tip hotline at (504) 271-TIPS or 8477, or Crimestoppers GNO at (504) 822-1111. Callers to the CIB tip hotline or Crimestoppers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash award from Crimestoppers.
