***UPDATE: (10:30 P.M.) ST. CLAUDE AVENUE HAS BEEN FULLY REOPENED***

St. Claude Avenue remains closed at parish line

At this time, both the eastbound and westbound lanes of St. Claude Avenue remain closed at the St. Bernard/Orleans parish line, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Residents needing to enter or exit the parish can do so by Judge Perez Drive or Paris Road which are both fully open.

The unexpected closure happened after an immediate request was made by Entergy to ensure the safety of their workers and the public.

Necessary repairs are being made in Arabi by nearly 100 utility workers in the aftermath of Tuesday’s tornado that devastated the area leaving many residents without power and some without homes.

Deputies have been directing traffic on St. Claude Avenue and Judge Perez Drive since the closure took place and will continue to do so until the highway is reopened.

An announcement will be made when St. Claude Avenue is reopened at the parish line.

Sheriff Pohlmann asks residents to have patience, understanding and compassion during this difficult time. These repairs are necessary and are being made as safely, efficiently and expeditiously as possible.
