SUMMER HEAT SAFETY REMINDER
As summer temperatures continue to rise, Sheriff James Pohlmann wants to remind residents to NEVER leave children or pets unattended in vehicles – no matter the circumstances or amount of time. Doing so can increase the risk of serious injury or death.
A vehicle’s interior can heat up rapidly, even with the windows cracked, creating dangerous and potentially deadly conditions in a matter of minutes. Leaving a child or pet alone in a vehicle can also increase the risk of accidental injury, emotional distress, abduction, or other emergencies.
In addition, doing so may result in criminal charges and other legal consequences.
Before walking away, always take a moment to check your back seat and make sure everyone is safely out of the vehicle.
