St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office sobriety checkpoint
results in several arrests

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Sept. 3 in Arabi in conjunction with the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over National Enforcement Mobilization Campaign, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

During the checkpoint, officers stopped vehicles to check for impaired drivers, which resulted in several arrests.

Rene Washington, 27, of Founder Court in New Orleans, was booked with three counts of attempted murder on a peace officer, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer by flight, criminal trespassing, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of Alprazolam, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kevin Cojoe, 23, of the 2300 block of Bellmont Place in Atlanta, Georgia, was booked with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of Alprazolam, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

During the investigation, officers seized a fully-loaded Centry Arms AK-47 pistol grip, semi-automatic rifle with one magazine, 209 grams of marijuana with a street value of $4,180, two tablets of Alprazolam, $1,446 in cash, small clear plastic baggies, and a digital scale.

In a separate incident, Karim Ford, 39, of the 2000 block of Tuskegee Drive in Marrero, was booked with felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest with force.

During this arrest, officers seized a Ruger .9mm handgun, the Sheriff said. #sbso
