St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office purchases cameras for deputies
As of Monday, March 15 at 7 a.m, Sheriff James Pohlmann said, St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office enforcement officers have been equipped with cameras to document their interactions with the public.
Provided by Axon Enterprises, a leader in body camera technology, Sheriff Pohlmann said the new equipment includes 130 body-worn cameras, 50 in-car cameras for marked units and new tasers. Axon also has provided computer software and a storage and records management system for the cameras and footage.
Deputies who have received training and are using the cameras include Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division deputies, as well as Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives, Special Investigations Division narcotics agents, and St. Bernard Parish Courthouse security.
Sheriff Pohlmann said the cameras are a good investment for the future of policing.
“I feel in today’s world these cameras have become a necessity in law enforcement,” the Sheriff said. “Having the cameras will provide our deputies with another tool to better do their jobs, and it also will promote transparency for everyone involved.”
