St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office issues arrest warrant for Arabi man in connection with fatal shooting in Arabi
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for an Arabi man in connection with the fatal shooting of a male relative on Sunday, July 12 in Arabi, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Corey Morgan, 30, of the 1200 block of Tenebrach Street in Arabi, is wanted for second degree murder for fatally shooting his uncle.
On Sunday, July 12, shortly before noon, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 1200 block of Mehle Avenue in Arabi.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a male victim, later identified as 54-year-old Bruce Morgan of Metairie, lying in the street suffering from fatal gunshot wounds to the chest.
During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau were able to identify Corey Morgan as the shooter.
Sheriff Pohlmann said detectives learned Corey and Bruce Morgan had been involved in an altercation during which Corey brandished a weapon and fired it at his uncle, fatally wounding him.
Corey Morgan is currently in the custody of the New Orleans Police Department, but is in the process of being transferred to St. Bernard Parish to be booked for second degree murder.
Sheriff Pohlmann said this was an isolated incident and no one else was injured.
The investigation is ongoing. No further details are available at this time.
