St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrests two men for illegally firing a weapon in Chalmette

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested two men for firing a weapon at a vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Chalmette on Wednesday, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Khristopher Lewis, 28, of the 4100 block of Frenchman Street in New Orleans, and Kyron Fazande, 19, of the 3800 block of Charles Drive in Chalmette, were both booked with illegal discharge of a firearm, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, obstruction of justice, aggravated criminal damage to property, simple criminal damage to property and possession of marijuana.

On Thursday, Jan. 28, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Sheriff Pohmann said, deputies responded to a call about shots fired near Delambert and East Solidelle Streets in Chalmette.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they located several spent casings in the 3300 block of Delambert and the 400 block of East Solidelle streets. They also came into contact with several subjects at a residence in the 400 block of East Solidelle Street.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau were able to identify the subjects as Lewis and Fazande, and confirm they exchanged gunfire with unknown subjects in a black in color sedan which approached them as they were walking down Delambert Street.

Based on information they learned, detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence in the 400 block of East Solidelle.

Sheriff Pohlmann said detectives recovered in a shed located on the property a Glock 19 .9mm which contained an unspent .9mm casing and multiple .9mm unspent casings inside the magazine, and a silver .45 caliber Kimber firearm and magazine which was listed out of Jefferson Parish as stolen. They also obtained a clear plastic bag containing marijuana.

During the incident, an unoccupied truck parked nearby was struck by a stray bullet from the incident, and a car, which was occupied by two females, was struck with another bullet during the incident.

Sheriff Pohlmann said no one was injured in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
