St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrests New Orleans man
for armed robbery of Chalmette restaurant

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a New Orleans man in connection with an armed robbery that took place in Chalmette on Sunday, Nov. 8, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Rondell Burnet, 21, of the 1700 block of Feliciana Street in New Orleans, was booked with armed robbery, resisting an officer and obstruction of justice for robbing at gunpoint a restaurant in Chalmette.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies responded to a call about an armed robbery at a restaurant in the 3200 block of Paris Road in Chalmette.

When deputies arrived on the scene, witnesses said a male suspect, later identified as Burnet, entered the restaurant, brandished a handgun, demanded cash from the register, and then fled the scene on foot.

Burnet was apprehended nearby by deputies with the Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division shortly after the robbery occurred.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau were able to positively identify Burnet through eyewitness accounts. Once in custody, Burnet confessed to committing the robbery.

Detectives recovered the handgun used by Burnet in the robbery, as well as the clothing he was wearing during the incident. Both were discarded nearby by Burnet. The stolen cash also was recovered and returned to the restaurant.

Sheriff Pohlmann said no one was injured in the incident. #sbso
