St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrests Chalmette woman
after fleeing from deputies in a stolen vehicle
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a Chalmette woman after she fled in a stolen vehicle from deputies attempting to make a traffic stop on Monday, Dec. 14, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Sydney Acosta, 25, of the 2500 block of Mumphrey Road in Chalmette, was booked with aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated criminal damage, possession of stolen property, and possession of Alprazolam (Xanax).
Shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies with the Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division attempted to make a traffic stop near the corner of Beauregard Avenue and West Beauregard Street in Chalmette on a silver 2014 Nissan Versa that was listed as stolen.
The driver, later determined to be Acosta, refused to stop and led deputies on a pursuit, speeding through a residential neighborhood. As she was fleeing from deputies, Acosta rammed a patrol unit causing moderate damage to it, the Sheriff said.
Once the stolen vehicle came to a stop, Acosta was quickly apprehended by deputies.
A criminal history check was conducted on Acosta which showed she was wanted on a warrant for simple burglary out of St. Bernard.
Acosta was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, where she was treated and released for booking, Sheriff Pohlmann said.
