St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrests Chalmette man for illegally firing a weapon

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a Chalmette man for firing a weapon at a vehicle following an altercation with someone in the parking lot of a Meraux business on Tuesday, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Joel Anderson, 23, of the 3500 block of Jacob Drive in Chalmette, was booked with illegal discharge of a weapon, aggravated assault with a firearm and obstruction of justice.

On Tuesday, Jan. 26, at approximately 6 p.m., Sheriff Pohmann said, deputies responded to a call about shots fired near a business in the 2500 block of Archbishop Hannan Boulevard in Meraux.

When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspects involved had fled, but several spent casings were located in the parking lot.

Through video surveillance and eyewitness accounts, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau were able to identify one of the vehicles involved to be a silver 2014 Chevrolet Impala registered to Anderson.

During the course of the investigation, detectives located Anderson’s vehicle backed in the driveway of a residence in the 300 block of East Solidelle Street in Chalmette. Once in custody, Anderson admitted his involvement and to firing his weapon.
