St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann said deputies are on the scene in the Arabi area after a confirmed tornado touched down. The affected areas are Old Arabi from the Mississippi River to Benjamin Street in Arabi including the St. Claude Heights and Carolyn Park neighborhoods.
The Sheriff confirms there is no power in the area, severe damage to homes and search and rescue efforts are underway for residents trapped in their homes.
Both Judge Perez Drive and St. Claude Avenue are impassable and closed entering the parish. The only route in and out at this time is Paris Road.
