SBSO TO PARTICIPATE IN INTERNET SAFETY PROGRAM OPEN TO PUBLIC

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), invites parents, guardians, and adult residents to attend Project iGuardian, an informative presentation on internet safety for children, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

The Project iGuardian presentation will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Nunez Community College in Chalmette.

Lt. Michelle Canepa, the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office school liaison investigator, will participate in the event.

With nearly 21 years of law enforcement experience, Lt. Canepa works closely with the St. Bernard Parish School System to handle incidents on school campuses, build positive relationships with students, and lead safety education initiatives for parents and staff.

Project iGuardian is a national program presented by HSI, the primary investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This engaging presentation will cover topics such as:

➡Tactics used by online predators
➡The growing crime of sextortion
➡ Privacy risks from digital devices
➡ Emerging apps, online games, and social media platforms

Attendees will also hear real-life examples from local investigations to better understand how children can be victimized online and learn practical steps to protect them.

Registration is recommended, but not required. Scan the QR code to sign up or simply join us at the event.

This event has been made possible through a collaboration between the Department of Homeland Security, Nunez Community College, the St. Bernard Parish School Board, and the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office.
