SBSO TO PARTICIPATE IN ‘DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER’ CAMPAIGN
As Labor Day weekend approaches, the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists that there’s no excuse for getting behind the wheel impaired, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
➡️Beginning Friday, Aug. 14 through Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7, the Sheriff’s Office will participate in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high-visibility enforcement campaign aimed at preventing impaired driving.
During the campaign, deputies will increase patrols on streets and highways throughout St. Bernard Parish, with an emphasis on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.
The initiative is funded through a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, which provides funding for additional traffic safety enforcement efforts.
Sheriff Pohlmann, who serves as a member of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission representing the 1st Congressional District, said programs such as this one provide law enforcement agencies with valuable resources to help keep motorists safe.
“These types of programs promote safety on our state roads and highway systems,” the Sheriff said. “Too many people are needlessly killed or injured each year in traffic crashes. We will not tolerate motorists driving on our roadways while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
The grant also provides funding throughout the year for additional traffic safety initiatives, including seat belt enforcement efforts and DWI sobriety checkpoints.
Sheriff Pohlmann encourages motorists to do their part by making responsible choices: If you plan to drink, plan ahead for a sober ride. Never drive impaired, and never allow friends or family members who have been drinking to get behind the wheel.
