SBSO TO OFFER ‘REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM’ CLASS

Registration is now open for the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Refuse To Be A Victim class, giving residents the opportunity to take a proactive role in their own safety, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

The class will be held Tuesday, April 14 at 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Sheriff’s Training Center, 2118 Jackson Blvd. in Chalmette. It will be presented by Lt. Eric Eilers, director of community relations, and Chaplain Dep. Aaron Johnson.

To register, call Lt. Eilers at (504) 278-7628. Space may be limited, so early registration is encouraged.

This FREE, three-hour class provides practical, real-world strategies to help participants reduce their risk of becoming a victim at home, at work, or in the community.

Attendees will learn effective crime prevention techniques, safety planning strategies, and mindset tools to make informed decisions and take a proactive approach to personal safety.

While St. Bernard Parish remains one of the safest communities in the greater New Orleans area, Sheriff Pohlmann said preparation and awareness are still essential, and the goal of this class is to provide residents with knowledge that makes a difference.

“Prevention starts with awareness,” Sheriff Pohlmann said. “While our deputies work every day to keep St. Bernard Parish safe, we also want our residents to be prepared to better protect themselves and their families.”

“Refuse To Be A Victim” is a nationally recognized program founded in 1993 that focuses on awareness, prevention, and preparedness.
