SBSO TO HOLD FREE HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is holding a free hunter education course that is open to the public, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

The course, which consists of the Field Day portion, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 4 to 9 p.m. in the Sheriff’s Office Training Center, 2118 Jackson Ave. in Chalmette, directly behind the Parish Courthouse.

Participation is open to anyone 12 and older who has already completed the approved online course and can provide a proof of completion voucher.

Registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome, provided they’ve completed the on-line portion. Younger children are welcome to attend, but cannot receive certification.

In Louisiana, anyone born after Sept. 1, 1969 must satisfactorily complete a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries-approved hunter education course to legally hunt in Louisiana, unless they are under direct supervision of a Louisiana licensed hunter born before Sept. 1, 1969, or a person 18 years of age or older who has a valid unrestricted Louisiana hunting license or proof of Hunter Education Certification. Direct supervision means the person being supervised is within normal audible voice contact and in the direct line of sight of the supervising person at all times while hunting.
