SBSO TO ENFORCE CURFEW AGAIN DUE TO HAZAROUS ROADS AND BLACK ICE
St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann said deputies will once again enforce a curfew enacted by Parish President Louis Pomes, effective tonight (Jan. 22) at 6 p.m. through noon tomorrow (Jan. 23), due to hazardous road and black ice conditions.
Black ice, a thin, transparent layer of ice that forms on roadways after such a significant snow event, is particularly dangerous because it blends in with the pavement, making it nearly impossible to detect.
These conditions significantly increase the risk of accidents, even for experienced drivers.
The Sheriff said deputies will be actively patrolling to enforce the curfew. Residents are asked to take this seriously and avoid unnecessary traveling on parish roadways during these continued dangerous conditions.
“This curfew is vital to protecting lives and ensuring emergency crews can respond safely,” Sheriff Pohlmann said. “Emergency responders need the roadways to remain clear so they can quickly and safely assist those in need. Traffic and accidents caused by unnecessary travel can significantly delay their efforts and put more lives at risk.”
For emergencies, please call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, contact the Sheriff’s Office at (504) 271-2501.
Remember, your safety is our priority. Let’s work together to keep the roads clear for emergency crews and protect St. Bernard Parish.
