SBSO TO COMPETE IN BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT SATURDAY

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? You can support your local Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, government workers and educators as they show off their skills on the basketball court and vie for bragging rights.

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has a team competing in the STB Leagues’ S.C.O.R.E. Series’ basketball tournament Saturday, Aug. 19 at Val Riess Sports Complex, 1101 Magistrate St. in Chalmette, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Other teams will include players from St. Bernard Fire Department, St. Bernard Parish Government and St. Bernard Parish School Board.

The S.C.O.R.E. Series aims to recognize St. Bernard Parish’s essential personnel through friendly athletic competitions.

The league consists of three athletic competitions – kickball, basketball, cornhole – over the course of 2023.

The kickball tournament, held in April, was won by the School Board.

At this weekend’s basketball tournament, the Sheriff’s Office will face the Fire Department at 2 p.m., followed by the School Board against Parish Government at 3 p.m.

Winners from those two games will face off for the championship at 4 p.m.

Special Investigations Division Narcotics Agent Brad Nuccio will serve as captain for the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office team which includes: Lt. Kyle Brown, Lt. Justin Topey, Agent Jonathan Smith, Dep. Patrick Clark, Dep. Aaron Johnson and Dep. Robert Smith.

These games are community events aimed at bringing the community together in a fun, family-friendly, positive atmosphere.

The events are free and open to the public. There will be a free bounce house for the kids, and concessions will be sold.

All proceeds from these events will be donated to local charitable endeavors.
