SBSO TAKING REGISTRATION FOR NIGHT OUT PARTIES

Turn on the porch light, fire up the grill and spend an evening getting to know the people who help make your neighborhood safer.

Sheriff James Pohlmann said the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office is inviting residents to take part in this year’s Night Out Against Crime by hosting neighborhood gatherings on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

➡️Residents who would like to host a Night Out Against Crime gathering are encouraged to register their event as soon as possible by contacting Lt. Jennifer Gutierrez at (504) 278-7628 or by emailing communityrelations@sbso.org.

Night Out Against Crime is an annual community-building campaign that brings neighbors and law enforcement together to strengthen relationships, build trust and promote crime prevention.

Whether it’s a backyard barbecue, block party or gathering at a neighborhood park or church, every event helps create a stronger, safer community.

“When neighbors know one another and communicate with law enforcement, it creates one of the strongest tools we have for preventing crime,” Sheriff James Pohlmann said. “Something as simple as turning on your porch light, stepping outside and spending time with your neighbors sends a clear message that our community is connected, engaged and united against crime.”

On the evening of Oct. 6, Sheriff Pohlmann and deputies from several divisions will travel throughout the parish to visit registered events, meet with residents, answer questions and share crime prevention information.

Each year, approximately two dozen Night Out gatherings are held across St. Bernard Parish, ranging from small neighborhood cookouts to larger community celebrations hosted by churches and civic organizations.
