SBSO TAKING REGISTRATION FOR NIGHT OUT PARTIES

Looking for a great way to get to know your neighbors better and help fight crime at the same time? Let’s unite to keep our community strong and crime-free!

Consider hosting a Night Out Against Crime party on Tuesday, Oct. 7 in your neighborhood. It’s a great opportunity for neighbors to strengthen bonds and increase crime prevention awareness, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

This annual community-building campaign is designed to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie – both key components in making our neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live.

“When residents know one another and communicate openly with law enforcement, everyone becomes more empowered to prevent crime before it happens,” the Sheriff said. “By simply turning on your porch light, stepping outside, and gathering with friends and neighbors, you’re helping to send a powerful message: We are united against crime.”

Residents who plan to host a Night Out party are asked to register their gathering as soon as possible with the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office by calling Lt. Eric Eilers at (504) 278-7628.

The Sheriff and deputies from several divisions will visit gatherings throughout the parish on the evening of Oct. 7 to meet residents, answer questions, and share crime prevention tips.

Lt. Eilers said there are typically about two dozen events held each year in St. Bernard, ranging from small neighborhood cookouts to larger community events at churches or public spaces.

Although National Night Out is traditionally observed in August across the country, local leaders in Southeast Louisiana chose in 2011 to move the event to October to offer more comfortable weather for outdoor gatherings.

Whether you host a gathering or simply attend one nearby, your participation helps make a difference. These face-to-face interactions help strengthen trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Let’s come together to promote safety, build stronger neighborhoods, and show that St. Bernard Parish stands united against crime.
