SBSO SUSPECT IN DOUBLE HOMICIDE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

A suspect in the double homicide that occurred Sunday evening in eastern St. Bernard Parish has been apprehended in Alabama, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Lee Collins III, 22, was taken into custody in Mobile, Alabama by the Mobile Police Department and is currently being held pending extradition to St. Bernard Parish. He is wanted on two counts of second degree murder.

As previously reported, the double homicide occurred Sunday, April 5, at approximately 7:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of Centanni Drive in the St. Bernard community.

Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance and, upon arrival, located two adult female victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to an area hospital, where they died from their injuries. The victims have since been identified as Collins’ mother and grandmother.

During the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau identified Collins, of the 2200 block of Centanni, as the suspect. Collins fled the scene on foot and stole a white 2019 Ford stake-bed truck bearing Louisiana license plate Z258037. The vehicle was recovered by the Bay Minette Police Department.

Sheriff Pohlmann extends his appreciation to the Mobile Police Department, Bay Minette Police Department, as well as the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bay St. Louis Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance in this case.

The investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff said.
