SBSO SHARES HOLIDAY SHOPPING SAFETY TIPS

With the holiday season upon us, St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann reminds residents that busy schedules and distractions can make holiday shoppers easy targets for criminals.

“Stay alert while shopping,” Sheriff Pohlmann said. “Criminals often take advantage of people who aren’t paying attention.”

To help ensure a safe holiday season, Sheriff Pohlmann offers these tips:

🚗Park smart: Choose well-lit areas close to store entrances. Lock your doors and keep valuables out of sight.

👀Stay aware: Scan your surroundings before entering or exiting stores. Have your keys ready and check your vehicle before getting in.

🛒Shop safely: Shop with a friend when possible. Don’t leave purses unattended, and protect wallets from pickpockets.

👫Protect children: Always escort young children to restrooms, and establish a meeting spot in case you get separated. Teach them to seek help only from store employees or security.

🛍Be cautious with packages: Store bags in your trunk or out of sight, and unload your car as soon as you get home. Never leave valuables in your vehicle overnight.

☎️If you notice suspicious activity or feel unsafe, call the Sheriff’s Office at (504) 271-2501 or 9-1-1 for immediate help.

“If you see something, say something,” the Sheriff said. “Let’s work together to keep the holidays safe and enjoyable for everyone.”

Sheriff Pohlmann wishes all residents a happy and safe holiday season.
