“We want residents to be mindful of reduced speed limits near our schools, and watch for students walking in the areas near schools,” the Sheriff said. “Also, be prepared for school buses making frequent stops to pick up or drop off students.”

St. Bernard Parish Public Schools start Friday, Aug. 5, Our Lady of Prompt Succor begins Monday, Aug. 8 and St. Bernard Christian Academy will open Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Sheriff Pohlmann said deputies with the Field Operations Bureau Traffic Division will be making extra patrols in school areas during mornings and afternoons to ensure residents are driving cautiously and being mindful of posted speed limits.

“Drive smart, keep your eyes on the road, and let’s keep our kids safe!,” the Sheriff said.
