SBSO RECEIVES ‘SURVIVAL KITS’
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office recently received about 50 “Law Enforcement Officer Survival Kits” from St. Bernard Parish Girl Scout Troop #46354 in recognition of today (Jan. 9) being National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
The “Survival Kits” include various types of candy, mints and gum for deputies to have handy while they work long hours on patrol. Each item has a special significance according to the Scouts: Lifesaver – to remind you of the many times you’ve been one; Starburst – for the burst of energy that you need; Payday – since you’re not doing it for the money; Hershey Kiss – to show our love for you; Gum – to help everyone stick together; Tootsie Roll – you have to roll with the punches; Peppermint Patty – helping you keep your cool; Snickers – to help you keep humor; and Mounds – for the mounds of courage you show.
Created in 2015, National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is celebrated every year on Jan. 9 to show support for law enforcement on the local, state and federal levels.
Lt. Eric Eilers, head of Community Relations, accepted the packages from Girl Scouts from left: Julianna Lacey, Leighton Murray-Bernard and Marciana Lua.
