SBSO QUICKLY APPREHENDS ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office quickly apprehended a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred this morning (April 7) shortly after 11 a.m. in the 200 block of Bayou Road in Poydras, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Brendell Smith, 18, of the 4900 block of Toulon Street in New Orleans, was booked with armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm with an altered or obliterated serial number.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau learned Smith approached an adult male in the parking lot of a business, brandished a firearm, and demanded money before fleeing the scene on foot.

Smith was quickly apprehended nearby by Special Investigations Division agents and then taken into custody without incident.

Fortunately, Sheriff Pohlmann said, no one was physically harmed during the robbery.

Detectives also recovered the $500 in cash that was stolen during the incident, and a Smith & Wesson .9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number used by Smith during the robbery.

Jamyre Bailey, 24, of the 2000 block of West Christie Drive in Poydras, also was booked in the case with accessory after the fact to armed robbery and on outstanding bench warrants out of St. Bernard for aggravated assault, resisting an officer, criminal damage and simple battery.
