SBSO & PARTNERS HOST TEEN TALK ABOUT ONLINE SAFETY, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with school officials and community leaders to speak with eighth graders at N.P. Trist Middle School about social media safety and healthy teen relationships, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Lt. Michelle Canepa, the Sheriff’s Office school liaison, and Col. Daniel Bostic Jr., commander of the Special Investigations Division, took part in the presentation, which featured guest speaker Claire B. Poché, lead licensed practical counselor and outreach coordinator with the Morgan Rae Center for Hope/New Orleans Children’s Advocacy Center at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.

Also participating were Andrea Licciardi, St. Bernard School System’s child welfare and attendance supervisor, along with Kara Collburn, Trist Middle School principal, and Julie Abadie, Trist vice principal.

Sheriff Pohlmann said these talks are an important way to reach students before problems arise.

“Keeping our young people safe starts with education,” the Sheriff said. “By talking openly about healthy relationships and the risks that come with social media, we give teens the tools they need to make good decisions and protect themselves.”
