SBSO PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH GATHERING
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office took part in a special gathering held in observance of September being National Recovery Month, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
The event, held Tuesday, Sept. 16 at The Coffee House in Arabi, was organized by the St. Bernard Taskforce Opioid Program in partnership with Avenues Recovery, Alchemy Addiction Recovery, Family Violence Program of St. Bernard, Metropolitan Human Services District, New Vision Withdrawal Management program at Ochsner-St. Bernard Parish Hospital, Neutral Ground Behavioral Health Solutions, River Oaks, Integrative Recovery Therapies, Healthy Avenues and the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce.
The purpose of the event was to bring together residents, community partners and organizations dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey to recovery.
Sheriff Pohlmann was joined by Col. Daniel Bostic Jr., commander of the Special Investigations Division, Capt. Matthew Arcement, also of SID, and Chaplain Aaron Johnson.
“Events like this highlight the critical role of collaboration between law enforcement, recovery programs, and local organizations in promoting healthier, safer communities,” the Sheriff said. “It is important to work together to ensure people who are struggling, and their families, are aware of the services available to them.”
The St. Bernard Taskforce Opioid Program, or S.T.O.P., is a partnership between St. Bernard Parish Government, the St. Bernard District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office. The purpose of the program is to work as a liaison between the community, those struggling with addiction and addiction specialists. S.T.O.P. applies outreach strategies that include prevention plans, treatment, recovery and enforcement.
