SBSO MARINE DIVISION RESCUES BOATERS The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, with assistance from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, rescued an adult male and female whose boat took on water this morning around 8 a.m. during a recreational fishing trip out of Hopedale in the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, Sheriff James Pohlmann said. Capt. Brian Clark and Lt. Shane Lulei said conditions were rough on the water this morning and the fact that both adults were wearing life jackets played a pivotal role in them being able to survive until help arrived on the scene to perform the rescue. The man and woman were both safely returned to the Hopedale Marina. Sheriff Pohlmann wants to remind residents to importance of practicing safety while on the water. “Everyone aboard a vessel should have a life jacket available to them, and it is mandatory for anyone under the age of 17 to have it on,” the Sheriff said. “They are easily available at sporting goods and department stores.”
