SBSO: “KEEPING OUR SCHOOLS SAFE”

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office headed back to school this week along with your children and are ready to keep them safe during the 2022-23 school year, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education deputies Capt. Lisa Jackson and Sgt. Darrin Miller will once again work with parish fifth-graders through our D.A.R.E. anti-drug program which is aimed at discouraging youngsters from using drugs, including tobacco and alcohol, or taking part in violence or bullying of others.

School Resource Officers, Lt. Marco Spicuzza, Dep. Jamie Penton, Dep. Jamie Lovas and Dep. Henry Senez, will keep a watchful eye over students on the Chalmette High School and C.F. Rowley Alternative School campuses.

These deputies work with school administrators and faculty members to ensure these schools are safe places for students to learn and prosper. They provide a highly visible presence to deter or identify trespassers on campus and they address concerns that may arise within the student body.

Crossing Guards are also on duty managing traffic safety at our parish schools during arrival and dismissal times.

These men and women are authorized to stop the flow of traffic in designated school zones to help children safely cross the street and ensure buses arrive and depart on time. Their purpose is to remind drivers of the presence of pedestrians near school crosswalks so everyone stays safe.

Sheriff Pohlmann wishes everyone a safe, happy and successful school year!
