SBSO K-9 PIT CELEBRATES ‘COFFEE WITH A COP’ DAY
Today, Oct. 1, is “National Coffee With A Cop Day,” and while K-9 Pit may enjoy the occasional pup cup at The Coffeehouse in Arabi, he’s best known for the hard work he puts in every day – “Keeping St. Bernard Safe.”
In the past year alone, Pit has assisted in more than 150 calls for service, leading to the seizure of illegal narcotics like cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana and heroin.
Pit works alongside his handler, Narcotics Agent Patrick Clark of the Special Investigations Division. The pair train year-round to keep Pit sharp on scent detection, and they travel each year to Alabama for recertification to ensure they stay mission-ready.
Sheriff James Pohlmann said thanks to Agent Clark’s hard work and dedication, Pit has become an invaluable member of the team.
“Pit isn’t just a K-9, he’s a trusted partner to our deputies,” the Sheriff said. “The work they do together directly impacts the safety of our community.”
So today, let’s raise our coffee mugs to Pit, Agent Clark, and all of our hard-working law enforcement partners who prove every day that teamwork, training and trust truly make a difference.
Sheriff Pohlmann reminds residents to call the Sheriff’s Office narcotics hotline at (504) 271-DOPE (3673) to report suspected illegal drug activity in St. Bernard Parish. Callers can remain anonymous, and all calls will be acted upon.
