SBSO ISSUES ARREST WARRANT FOR WOMAN WANTED FOR STEALING VEHICLE WITH DOG INSIDE

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating both a woman wanted for stealing a vehicle and the dog that was inside the car at the time of the theft, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Shanda Norton, 35, of the 2300 block of Nicosia Place in Poydras, is wanted for theft of a motor vehicle, vandalism and theft.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2025, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies responded to a call for service in reference to a vehicle that was stolen from the parking lot of a business in the 2300 block of Paris Road.

When deputies arrived on the scene they were met by the victim who said her silver 2018 Toyota Camry was stolen and her dog was inside the vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, Field Operations Patrol Division deputies and Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives were able to identify Norton as the suspect.

They also were able to recover the stolen vehicle shortly after, abandoned in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. The suspect was missing, as well as the victim’s dog, Fannie Mae, a 17-year-old white Toy Poodle, weighing between 6 to 8 pounds.

Anyone with information on Norton’s whereabouts or the missing dog is urged to contact the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office at (504) 271-2501 or Crimestoppers GNO at (504) 822-1111. Callers may remain anonymous.
