SBSO ISSUES ARREST WARRANT FOR MAN WANTED FOR ARSON
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for a man wanted for setting his ex-girlfriend’s house on fire on Thursday morning, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Melvin Hendricks, 52, whose last known address was in the 2300 block of Licciardi Lane in Violet, is wanted for aggravated burglary, aggravated arson and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On Wednesday, May 26, shortly after 7 a.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies responded to a call for service in reference to a house fire in the 3200 block of Angelique Drive in Violet.
When deputies arrived on the scene they came into contact with two adult males who said they were inside the home when the fire was intentionally set by Hendricks who had shown up unannounced.
During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau learned Hendricks entered the home of his ex-girlfriend, with a firearm in hand, poured gasoline throughout the residence, set the house on fire and then fled the scene.
Sheriff Pohlmann said neither of the men who were in the home were injured during the incident.
Hendricks is 5’11” tall and weighs about 200 pounds.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Hendricks, or any other information relating to this incident is asked to call the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office at (504) 271-2501, the Criminal Investigations Bureau’s tip hotline at (504) 271-TIPS or 8477, or Crimestoppers GNO at (504) 822-1111.
