SBSO INVESTIGATING INCIDENT NEAR CHALMETTE FERRY; FERRY CLOSED
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving a vehicle that went over the Chalmette Ferry landing overnight, Sheriff James Pohlmann said, causing the ferry to be closed until further notice.
On Saturday, March 16, 2024, around 2:22 a.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies responded to a call for service in reference to a pickup truck traveling off the Chalmette Ferry landing and into the Mississippi River.
The investigation is ongoing, he said.
