SBSO investigating fatal shooting in Chalmette

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting involving a mother and daughter that occurred this morning at a residence in Chalmette, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies responded to a call for service in reference to a shooting in the 4000 block of Hamlet Place in Chalmette.

When deputies arrived on the scene they found an adult female victim they identified as the mother suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies also came into contact with another adult female who said she was the daughter.

The 61-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The Sheriff said this incident is believed to be between the two family members and no one else was injured during the altercation.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff said.
