SBSO HONORS CIVIL SHERIFF JOANN LANE FOR SIX DECADES OF SERVICE

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office formally honored Civil Sheriff JoAnn Celino Lane for her extraordinary 64 years of service by dedicating the Civil Sheriff JoAnn C. Lane Conference Room in her honor on Monday, Jan. 12, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Ms. JoAnn began her career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1961 at just 17 years old, starting as a secretary in Public Relations and Civil Defense. In 1984, she was promoted to Civil Sheriff and Director of the Civil and Tax Division, a role she has proudly held for more than six decades and still serves in today.

Throughout her distinguished career, she has served under five sheriffs: Dr. Nicholas Trist, John F. “Jack” Rowley, Ralph McDougall, Jack Stephens, and Sheriff Pohlmann, who says she remains an active and trusted leader within the agency.

“Ms. JoAnn’s commitment, institutional knowledge, and leadership have been instrumental in keeping this agency strong for more than six decades,” Sheriff Pohlmann said. “Her dedication to public service and fiscal responsibility has left a lasting impact on the Sheriff’s Office and the community we serve.”

As part of the recognition, Sheriff Pohlmann presented Ms. JoAnn with a plaque to commemorate her 64 years of service. He said the conference room dedication stands as a permanent tribute to her unwavering commitment, professionalism, and enduring legacy within the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Reflecting on her career with the Sheriff’s Office, Ms. JoAnn shared, “You know they say if you enjoy what you do, you don’t ‘work’ a day in your life, and I believe that. It has been such a rewarding experience for me. It’s been my life, and it has, and continues to be truly an honor.”
