SBSO HOLDS HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE; NEXT CLASS IN OCTOBER
Nearly two dozen people participated in the FREE hunter education course held Thursday, Aug. 27 at the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division building in Chalmette, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
The course consisted of the Field Day portion of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries-approved hunter education program and included classroom instruction as well as hands-on shooting range time, giving participants the opportunity to learn and demonstrate important firearm and hunting safety skills.
For those who missed last night’s class, the Sheriff’s Office will offer another FREE course Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Special Operations Division building, 4700 Paris Road in Chalmette, directly behind the Field Operations Bureau.
Participation is open to anyone 9 and older who has already completed the approved online course – https://www.hunter-ed.com/louisiana/ – and can provide a proof of completion voucher. Younger children are welcome to attend, but cannot receive certification.

In Louisiana, anyone born after Sept. 1, 1969 must satisfactorily complete a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries-approved hunter education course to legally hunt in Louisiana, unless they meet one of the state’s supervision exemptions.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone interested in attending the Oct. 13 class to complete the online portion ahead of time and be ready to take advantage of this free opportunity to finish their hunter education requirements.
