SBSO HOLDS FREE HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office presented a free hunter education course Tuesday, Sept. 26 for teens 12 and older in the Sheriff’s Office training center in Chalmette.

The class, which consisted of the Field Day portion, was open to anyone who had already completed the approved online course and could provide a proof of completion voucher.

In Louisiana, anyone born after Sept. 1, 1969 must satisfactorily complete a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries-approved hunter education course to legally hunt in Louisiana, unless they are under direct supervision of a Louisiana licensed hunter born before Sept. 1, 1969, or a person 18 years of age or older who has a valid unrestricted Louisiana hunting license or proof of Hunter Education Certification. Direct supervision means the person being supervised is within normal audible voice contact and in the direct line of sight of the supervising person at all times while hunting.

The class was presented by instructors: Capt. Brian Clark, commander of the SBSO Marine Division; Lt. Shane Lulei of the SBSO Marine Division; Dep. Travis Guillot of the SBSO Marine Division; Col. Chad Clark, commander of the SBSO Criminal Investigations Bureau; and Stephen Clark, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Special Agent in Charge, Southeast Region.
