SBSO HELPS PLACE FLAGS AT CHALMETTE NATIONAL CEMETERY FOR MEMORIAL DAY

A group of deputies with the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office joined community volunteers Friday morning at Chalmette National Cemetery to help place American flags at the headstones of thousands of veterans laid to rest there in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 25.

Several of the deputies who participated in the flag placement are veterans themselves, making the tribute especially meaningful as they honored fallen service members.

Among them were Col. Daniel Bostic Jr., commander of the Special Investigations Division, who served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1998-2004; Lt. Marco Spicuzza, an SID School Resource Officer, who served as a corporal in the U.S. Marines from 1996-2000; Sgt. Stephen Imbraguglio of SID, who served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1977; and Agent James Wood of the SID Narcotics Unit, who retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master sergeant after serving from 1988-2016.

Volunteers also will return Tuesday, May 26, to assist with respectfully retiring and packaging the flags following the holiday.
