SBSO DRUG TAKE-BACK SET FOR SATURDAY
Doing some spring cleaning? Now’s the perfect time to clean out more than just your closets.
St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann is encouraging residents to take a few minutes to check their medicine cabinets and safely dispose of any unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 25.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., SBSO Narcotics Unit agents with the Special Investigations Division will be at Walgreens, 100 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette, at the corner of Paris Road, collecting unwanted medications, no questions asked.
A quick stop could help prevent accidental misuse, keep medications out of the hands of children, and stop them from being used or sold illegally.
“This is a great opportunity for residents to safely dispose of old medications and help protect their families and our community,” Sheriff Pohlmann said.
Since its launch in 2010, the DEA-led initiative has collected more than 4.8 million pounds of prescription drugs nationwide.
Can’t make it that day? The Sheriff’s Office also offers a year-round medication drop box at the substation located at 4700 Paris Road in Chalmette.
Take a moment, make a difference, and continue “Keeping St. Bernard Safe.”
