SBSO DETECTIVE SGT. KENNETH SIERRA HONORED AS A CRIMESTOPPERS DEPUTY OF THE YEAR
St. Bernard Sheriffâs Office Detective Sgt. Kenneth Sierra was among a dozen Deputies of the Year honored at the 41st Annual Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans Awards Luncheon held Friday, April 10, at the Sheraton New Orleans, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Darlene Cusanza, president and chief executive officer of Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans, said the award, sponsored by the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust, honors commissioned law enforcement officers who exemplify the core values of the law enforcement oath and go above and beyond in service to the community.
âRecipients of this award should be recognized by their law enforcement peers and the community for efforts that have gone above and beyond the call of duty,â Cusanza said. âThey should display high personal standards of honesty, integrity, moral fortitude, leadership and selflessness.â
Sheriff Pohlmann said the honor reflects Sgt. Sierraâs commitment to serving others.
âWith more than three decades of dedicated service, Sgt. Sierra has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to the people of St. Bernard Parish,â the Sheriff said.
Col. Chad Clark, commander of the Criminal Investigations Bureau and Sgt. Sierraâs supervisor, praised his leadership.
âSgt. Sierra leads by example every day,â Col. Clark said. âWhether heâs working complex investigations or mentoring younger deputies, he approaches everything with a genuine desire to help others.â
Sgt. Sierra, who has been a detective since 2018, has 31 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career with the Sheriffâs Office in 1995 and has served in multiple divisions, including Corrections, Traffic, Court Security, and as an assistant to former Sheriff Jack Stephens.
Beyond his official duties, Sgt. Sierra dedicates extensive off-duty time to the community, including supporting Chalmette High Schoolâs band program by assisting with events and fundraisers, and volunteering with organizations such as the St. Bernard Autism Awareness Krewe, Special Olympics, and the COPS for Christmas initiative.
âIâm truly honored to be nominated alongside so many outstanding deputies from across the region,â Sgt. Sierra said. âThis recognition reflects the support of my family, fellow deputies, and the community we serve.â
Sheriff Pohlmann said the Sheriffâs Office is proud of Sgt. Sierraâs accomplishments.
âWe congratulate Sgt. Sierra on this well-deserved recognition and thank Crimestoppers for highlighting the dedication of so many law enforcement officers who work every day to keep our communities safe,â he said.
