SBSO DEPUTIES GRADUATE FROM P.O.S.T. CORRECTIONS COURSE

Twelve deputies with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office graduated Friday, Aug. 1, from a 92-hour Corrections Division course in Peace Officers Standards and Training, or P.O.S.T., Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

The course, held at the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Training Center in Chalmette, prepares deputies to work in correctional facilities such as a prison environment or Juvenile Detention Center. Topics covered include defensive tactics, booking procedures, report writing, and the use of force. Deputies also undergo pepper spray training, which includes being sprayed themselves to better understand its effects in the field.

Graduates of the course include:

Dep. Cooper and Dep. Kelly both earned perfect scores on the P.O.S.T. final exam, achieving 100 percent.

The academy was led by members of the SBSO Corrections Division, including Maj. Morgan, Lt. Brown, Lt. Jodie Couture, Sgt. Rosalyn Cantrell, Sgt. Louis Mowers, and Dep. Darlene Ricks.
