SBSO COMMUNITY RELATIONS BEGINS NEW CHAPTER
Building relationships with the community has been at the heart of the St. Bernard Sheriffâs Office for decades, and now one longtime deputy is handing the reins to another veteran.
Community Relations Lt. Eric Eilers has retired after 16 years of service, and Lt. Jennifer Gutierrez, a 27-year veteran of the Sheriffâs Office, has taken over his role in the Special Operations Division, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Community Relations serves as an important link between the Sheriffâs Office and the public, connecting deputies with residents, businesses, schools and community organizations throughout St. Bernard Parish. Falling under Community Relations are Reserve deputies and School Crossing Guards; Business and Neighborhood Watch initiatives; the Citizens Police Academy and Junior Deputy program; coordination of special event permits, tents and barricades; and outreach efforts at schools and events throughout the parish.
âCommunity Relations plays a vital role in how we connect with the people we serve,â Sheriff Pohlmann said. âIt gives us an opportunity to build trust and strengthen relationships with our residents.â
This transition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Community Relations.
âWe thank Eric for his many years of service and wish him the very best in retirement,â the Sheriff said, âand Iâm confident Jennifer will work hard to continue our commitment to our community.â
Residents who would like more information about Sheriffâs Office Community Relations programs can contact Lt. Gutierrez at (504) 278-7742 or communityrelations@sbso.org.
