SBSO CAPT. MICHAEL INGARGIOLA GRADUATES FROM FBI ACADEMY
St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. Michael Ingargiola was among more than 260 law enforcement officers from across the globe who graduated March 17 from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
The 10-week professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement managers provides instruction in intelligence theory, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science.
According to Capt. Ingargiola, the course is broken down into several blocks of instruction taught by University of Virginia instructors and FBI agents. There’s a physical aspect of the course that includes weekly challenges that need to be met, and forums are held with fellow law enforcement officers who have participated in various national tragic events.
During the course, Capt. Ingargiola completed training in classes which included fitness for law enforcement, critical incident leadership, crisis negotiations, contemporary issues in police media relations, essentials for law enforcement leaders and contemporary issues in law enforcement.
Capt. Ingargiola, who attended the course Jan. 10 through March 17, said he was honored to represent the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office at the FBI National Academy.
“It’s an honor to be chosen to attend the National Academy amongst so many dedicated and qualified men and women that work for this department, and I look forward to passing on my knowledge and experiences,” Capt. Ingargiola said. “These 10 weeks were challenging, but I gained a lifetime of knowledge and friendships.
A 28-year veteran of the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office, Capt. Ingargiola joins the ranks of a dozen top ranking, active officials with the Sheriff’s Office to complete this prestigious training.
For close to three decades, Capt. Ingargiola has worked in various divisions, including the Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division and the Traffic Division, where he has served as commander for the past 12 years. He also has been a crash reconstruction expert since 2004, a Support Team Leader on the S.W.A.T. team, and is a member of the Motorcycle Division.
As of today, April 1, Capt. Ingargiola was promoted to his current rank and named head of Fleet Operations for the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office. Capt. Ingargiola replaces Capt. Bret Bowen who is retiring after 32 years with the Sheriff’s Office.
