SBSO CAPT. LISA JACKSON HOSTS STATEWIDE D.A.R.E. TRAINING CONFERENCE

St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Capt. Lisa Jackson, who serves as president of the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Officers Association, proudly hosted the LDOA’s 34th Annual Training Conference, held July 15-18 in New Orleans, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

The conference brought together D.A.R.E. officers from 10 parishes across Louisiana – including St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Jefferson, Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, Assumption, and St. Tammany – for a week filled with training, collaboration, and family-centered fun.

More than 200 officers and their families attended the event, which featured a variety of professional development seminars focused on enhancing community engagement and youth empowerment. Attendees also enjoyed fun activities such as a shooting competition, bowling night, a D.A.R.E. vehicle contest, a zoo trip for children, Family Night, 80s Night, and an awards ceremony honoring excellence in D.A.R.E. programming.

SBSO’s D.A.R.E. anti-drug program, led by Capt. Jackson with assistance from Sgt. Brandon Lewis and Sgt. Darrin Miller, is aimed at discouraging youngsters from using drugs, including tobacco and alcohol, or taking part in violence or bullying of others.

Sheriff Pohlmann, who addressed attendees during one of the conference events, spoke about the ongoing importance of the D.A.R.E. mission.

“The D.A.R.E. program has been a critical part of our community outreach for decades,” the Sheriff said. “These officers serve as role models and mentors, and their impact goes far beyond the classroom.”

Col. Daniel Bostic Jr., commander of SBSO’s Special Investigations Division who oversees the D.A.R.E. program, emphasized the value of collaboration and continued training.

“This conference showcased the dedication of D.A.R.E. officers from across Louisiana,” Col. Bostic said. “Through shared ideas, training, and fellowship, we continue to strengthen our ability to reach youth and keep our communities safe.”

Capt. Jackson expressed heartfelt appreciation to the many sponsors and partners who helped make the event possible, as well as to the deputies who participated throughout the week.

“This conference was a true team effort,” Capt. Jackson said. “It was an incredible opportunity to bring together officers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make it a success.”

Capt. Jackson, who began her law enforcement career in 1992, has led SBSO’s D.A.R.E. program since 2009 and has served on the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Association board in multiple leadership roles, including treasurer, first vice president, and vice president.
