SBSO ATTENDS HURRICANE KATRINA 20TH ANNIVERSARY EVENTS

St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann and several members of the Sheriff’s Office commemorated the 20th year since Hurricane Katrina devastated St. Bernard Parish by attending three local events on Friday, Aug. 29.

The Sheriff and members of his command staff attended the St. Bernard Parish Public School System’s Annual Day of Reflection Breakfast, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church’s Memorial Mass and St. Bernard Parish Government’s Shell Beach Wreath Laying.

The School System’s Day of Reflection Breakfast, held at Chalmette High School’s Ninth Grade Academy, paid homage to many of the school district’s accomplishments and community partners, including the Sheriff’s Office. The breakfast was attended by many state and local officials, including guest speaker U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy and Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice John Weimer.

The Memorial Mass, officiated by Archbishop Gregory Aymond, also was attended by many government officials, including Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and Louisiana State Police Superintendent Col. Robert Hodges.

The Wreath Laying paid tribute to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and community members, first responders, volunteers, officials and survivors who helped St. Bernard Parish rebuild.
