Norman Evans, 25, of the 1200 block of Mazant Street in New Orleans, was booked with illegal possession of weapons while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, resisting an officer and drug paraphernalia.
On Thursday, Nov. 30, shortly after 2 p.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit agents who were in the Chalmette area attempted to conduct a traffic stop for front windshield tint on a vehicle traveling near the intersection of West Judge Perez Drive and Doctor Meraux Boulevard.
As agents attempted to make the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Ramsey, refused to stop.
During the incident Ramsey lost control of the vehicle, traveled into an empty lot on Mehle Avenue and crashed into the rear fence of a home on Esteban Street causing damage to several fence boards.
Once the vehicle came to a stop, Ramsey, and the passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Evans, both exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
After a brief struggle with agents, Ramsey and Evans were both apprehended nearby and taken into custody.
During the investigation, Evans was found to have on his person a Taurus .9mm handgun.
Agents also located in plain sight on the floorboard in front of the driver’s seat of the vehicle a Glock 27 caliber handgun, and in plain sight in the driver’s door open storage compartment a clear plastic bag containing 73 grams of marijuana with a street value of $1,400.
Following a search of the vehicle, agents also recovered a Walther/Smith & Wesson P99.40 caliber handgun listed by the New Orleans Police Department as stolen, and a digital scale located in a backpack in the rear passenger compartment.
A criminal background check was conducted on both Ramsey and Evans which revealed Ramsey had an outstanding warrant out of NOPD for theft of a motor vehicle.
Agents also discovered the vehicle Ramsey was driving had a fraudulent temporary license tag and a vehicle identification number or VIN that was not registered.
Based on the above findings, both Ramsey and Evans were transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges.
