SBSO ARRESTS TEEN MINUTES AFTER HE COMMITS ARMED ROBBERY IN CHALMETTE

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile minutes after he committed an armed robbery this afternoon in Chalmette, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

On Tuesday, Dec. 27, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies with the Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division were dispatched to the 8700 block of West Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette in reference to a report of an armed robbery.

Deputies were advised by dispatch that a male suspect wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, a red beanie-style hat and a blue surgical mask entered the business, brandished a weapon from his waistband and demanded merchandise from the store. The victim said the male suspect then fled the store with the merchandise in an unknown direction.

During the course of the investigation, FOB deputies, Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives and Special Investigations Division agents worked together to quickly set up a perimeter and were able to apprehend the male suspect nearby just minutes after the 911 call was received.

Sheriff Pohlmann said investigators were able to recover the Hi-Point .9mm handgun used by the teen in the robbery, along with the bicycle he fled on and the stolen merchandise.

Based on the above information, the male juvenile who lives in Arabi was transported to the St. Bernard Juvenile Detention Center to be booked with armed robbery.

Sheriff Pohlmann said no one was injured in the incident.
