SBSO ARRESTS NEW ORLEANS MAN WANTED FOR ARMED ROBBERY BY CARJACKING

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a New Orleans man wanted by the New Orleans Police Department for an armed robbery by carjacking that took place in New Orleans, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Diamonds Eugene Jr., 19, of the 7800 block of Wave Drive in New Orleans, was booked Wednesday with two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, flight from an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies received information from NOPD that a suspect involved in an armed robbery by carjacking in the 3800 block of Louisiana Avenue Parkway had entered St. Bernard Parish in a black Ford F-150 pick up truck.

Shortly after, the Sheriff said, Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division deputies located the vehicle near Plaza Drive and East St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette and attempted to make a traffic stop.

The driver of the Ford F-150, later identified as Eugene, refused to stop.

Eugene exited the truck in the 2700 block of Lyndell Drive in Chalmette, with an assault-type rifle in hand, and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended by Special Investigations Division agents nearby, and the weapon was recovered.

Eugene was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges.
