SBSO ARRESTS NEW ORLEANS MAN ON NARCOTICS CHARGES, SEIZES STOLEN WEAPON

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a New Orleans man on narcotics charges and seized a stolen firearm following an investigation conducted by the Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit and the New Orleans Police Department, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Vener Young, 65, of the 2300 block of Mazant Street in New Orleans, was booked with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute MDMA (Ecstasy), possession of marijuana, convicted felon in possession of firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, no blinker and proper equipment.

During the investigation, agents initially recovered the previously mentioned narcotics, along with a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber firearm that had been reported stolen by the New Orleans Police Department

A subsequent search warrant executed at the suspect’s residence, in coordination with NOPD, led to the discovery of additional evidence, including cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, a Walther handgun, an AR-style rifle, and $102,601 in cash.

A criminal history background check was conducted on Young which revealed he has prior felony convictions for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and resisting an officer.

Young was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges. He is being held with no bond.

Sheriff Pohlmann said this investigation highlights the importance of strong working relationships between law enforcement agencies.

By coordinating efforts and sharing information, he said we become better equipped to disrupt criminal activity and enhance public safety.

“These partnerships allow us to extend our reach, respond more effectively, and serve our community with greater impact,” the Sheriff said. “When agencies work together, everyone benefits, especially the communities we serve.”

Sheriff Pohlmann reminds residents to call the Sheriff’s Office narcotics hotline at (504) 271-DOPE or 3673 to report suspected illegal drug activity in St. Bernard Parish. Callers can remain anonymous, and all calls will be acted upon.
