SBSO ARRESTS NEW ORLEANS MAN, 14-YEAR-OLD FEMALE ON VARIOUS CHARGES FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a New Orleans man and a 14-year-old female on a number of charges following a traffic stop in Arabi early Friday morning, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Robert Taylor, 46, of the 1800 block of Spain Street in New Orleans, was booked with illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute MDMA Ecstasy, possession with with intent to distribute Suboxone, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and reckless operation.

A 14-year-old female from Gretna, who was a passenger in Taylor’s vehicle and listed as a missing juvenile, was booked with attempted simple escape, simple escape, resisting an officer by force or violence and refusal to identify.

On Friday, Jan. 27, shortly after 3 a.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division deputies on patrol in the Arabi area attempted to make a traffic stop on a gray 2016 Kia Soul seen traveling at a high rate of speed as it entered St. Bernard Parish near Angela Street.

The driver, later identified as Taylor, initially fled from deputies, but came to a stop in the 7500 block of Patricia Street.

During the traffic stop, deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle.

Following a search of the vehicle, deputies found the 14-year-old female attempting to hide under blankets in the front seat.

The female juvenile refused to identify herself to deputies and attempted to flee. After a brief struggle, she was taken into custody by deputies.

During the course of the investigation, deputies recovered two small bags and one larger bag containing a combined approximate weight of 13.65 grams of cocaine and fentanyl; seven small bags and one large bag containing a combined approximate weight of 9.46 grams of crack cocaine and fentanyl; 23 tablets of MDMA Ecstasy and fentanyl, 23 packages of Suboxone, one bottle of liquid Promethezine, 20 capsules of Acetaminophen and Oxycodone, four tablets of Alprazolam, five tablets of Tramadol and Hydrochloride three tablets of Tramadol, approximately 128.66 grams of marijuana, one digital scale, one grinder and rolling papers.

Deputies also recovered a Taurus G2C .9mm handgun.

A criminal history check was conducted on Taylor which revealed he has an active warrant out of Jefferson Parish for battery, is a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal record and is on active parole for various narcotics and weapons charges in New Orleans.

A check also was conducted on the female juvenile which revealed she was listed as a missing juvenile out of Gretna.

Taylor was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison and the 14-year-old female juvenile was taken to the St. Bernard Parish Juvenile Detention Center to be booked on the above charges.

The investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff said.
